The cold stone under the new convict’s body competes with the rhythmic and systematic drip of water from places nearby yet unknown. Awareness is slow to return, perhaps with a mixture of confusion, nausea, and fear as you find yourself in a wholly unfamiliar location. When you decide to crack your eyes open, you are greeted with a faint blue glow outlining the craggy jagged rocks that make up the surface of the walls and roof. Most of the rocks glisten with moisture, rivets of water lazily trailing over the rocks and finding end points to drip from to the floor, which is the only relatively smooth surface. And the glow? There are veins of luminescent blue crystal snaking through the ceiling.

As their senses return to them, their vision may blur with waves of black and white static and their ears are filled with white noise. They will realize their chest and ribs are sore, perhaps even bruised if they’re quick enough to look before those fade away. What they realize is that their skin is beaded with moisture even if their clothing is dry, which adds a chill to their arrival.

They may or may not be alone in a room, perhaps appearing with another new arrival or maybe dropped into the room of a convict who has claimed it. They will notice a sparse rectangle with carved slabs of stone here and there. Perhaps a rudimentary bed or a shelf or stone cabinet are present, but there are no creature comforts noticeable at first if they are alone. If the room is occupied, there may be sparse comforts and the beginnings of collections noted. They will notice their arms are wrapped around a single wooden box that contains meager supplies: a blanket, rations, and an old-timey device called walkie-talkies. There is a single small scrap of parchment with faded writing:

There is a single stone doorway leading to the world beyond their box of awakening. Some may have a door, others may only have a gaping rectangular maw allowing you out to view your brand new world. And what a dim, oppressive place that it is with layers etched in stone like a reverse beehive.

There is only one obvious bright point in their situation; they are not the first to arrive here and thus answers may be forthcoming. Others are emerging from their own doorways, observed by others who have lived here longer. Those people are perhaps even moving to assist. They are all united under one banner: criminals. It says so right on their left hand.

NOTES:
➡ All characters wake up in similar rooms with minor differences in layout but are approximately the same size. They may wake with another new arrival, alone, or in the presence of another convict from previous app periods.

➡ Characters may experience bouts of white noise, blurred vision, and nausea, as if their bodies are adjusting to this new predicament. Severity and timing is up to players.

➡ A character’s crime or crimes are tattooed on their left hand or, in a particularly long rap sheet, their left forearm.

For those who have posted on the TDM:

Did your character damage the setting? Attempt to damage the setting?
Got violent with one of the shopkeepers?
Argued incessantly with the shopkeepers?
Had any other run-ins, general chaos, etc?

We know it's kind of last minute! But seeing as how we've had such a wonderful turnout, we obviously can't keep track of the lovely things your characters have been doing. Let us know in the comments, or on the plurk we make for it!

ENABLE ME PLEASE

Welcome to Edictum's first EMP post! We're not going to make everything extremely lengthy, because you know the drill by now. Mostly, we're going to do some housekeeping rules:

➡ Approved invitations are required for apping / reserving to the game.

➡ We have a 70 player cap.

➡ Reserves open on January 21st. Applications open on the 23rd.

➡ Game navigation is here. It's still a bit of a work in progress, final touches are being put on it and will be available as soon as possible.

➡ This isn't a claims page, and it's not guaranteed that you will be approved once going through the invite > reserve > application process. This is just to gather interest!
